Giants of Justice 2019: Rooted in Faith, Reaching for Justice

Giants of Justice is CLUE's signature fundraiser and awards event in Los Angeles County, a celebratory breakfast for our partners, supporters, and volunteers united with clergy from many faiths in the common struggle for a just economy alongside workers, immigrants, communities of color, and those who are persecuted because of their religion.

Join us as we celebrate the leadership of our incredible honorees:

Gilda Valdez of SEIU Local 721, the largest public sector union in Southern California, as a true champion of our working families. We applaud SEIU Local 721 not only for winning strong contracts for its 95,000 members, but also for advancing economic justice for all through its efforts to lift the wage ceiling and ensure equal protection for everyone under the law.

Father William "Will" Connora trusted friend and ally to local workers in hospitality and port-dependent industries for nineteen years who has risked arrest in nonviolent direct actions to advance the cause of economic justice. Father Connor is a retired Catholic priest who served most recently as pastor of Saint Joseph Catholic Church on the east side of Long Beach.

And CLUE Legacy Leader Rev. James Lawson, for his life-time achievements in social and economic justice ministry. Among Rev. Lawson's many lasting contributions to justice movements, we lift up his lifelong development of the theory and practice of nonviolent direct action, one of the founding values of CLUE that continues to direct and influence every aspect of our work.

Our energizing morning program will be hosted by Najeeba Syeed, a peacemaker, healer, scholar, and director of the Center for Global Peacebuilding at Claremont School of Theology. Together, we will honor the lives and work of our visionary clergy and lay leaders, who inspire us to build a just and sacred Los Angeles!

Giants of Justice 2019 registration is now closed, but tickets will be available at the door. If you would like to buy more than two tickets, please email Pam Hope to discuss availability at [email protected].
